5 Things to do in Jonesborough for the Holidays

Each Saturday features free activities for the whole family and a different theme each weekend, including Whoville Christmas, Doggone Christmas and Santa’s Christmas Village taking place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Churches in the historic district invite you in for the Christmas Church Tour, you can’t miss the magical display of the Lighted Christmas Parade and Santa will be in his sleigh for pictures. Enjoy free gift wrapping inside the Storytelling Center for any purchases made downtown.

Specific dates and times:

Saturday, Nov. 26 – Whoville and Small Business Saturday. Lighting of the Tree will take place at 6 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 3 – Doggone Christmas

Saturday, Dec. 11 – Santa’s Christmas Village. The Christmas Parade takes place at 6 p.m.

Hear a reading of How the Grinch Stole Christmas

The Chester Inn Museum and Heritage Alliance is excited to share reading of How the Grinch Stole Christmas in their historic parlor again this year during 2022 Whoville Christmas.

This year there will be readings at noon, 1:15, 2, and 2:45. Attendance of each program is to the first 20 people. Attendees can pick up their tickets at the Chester Inn Museum on the 26th. Tickets for the first two programs will be available starting at 11 a.m., and tickets will be available for the other programs starting at 1:15 pm.

Jonesborough is the place to shop! Enjoy extended shopping hours during this holiday season especially on Small Business Saturday on Nov. 26!

Take a photo with Santa

Santa will be downtown all four Saturdays in his sleigh to make the perfect holiday memory! You can also write a letter to Santa and submit it in his mailbox downtown next to the Washington County Courthouse. Letters can be submitted between Nov. 26 – Dec. 12.

Compete in the Cheermeister competition

Do you think you have what it takes for your team to be dubbed Jonesborough’s Holiday Cheermeister?

During Whoville on Nov. 26, your group of 3-5 people can participate at noon at the International Storytelling Plaza.

We will accept groups of 3-5 with each person competing in a different leg of the competition. These include:

1. Best Christmas attire
2. Best wrapped gift
3. Sing loud for all to hear holiday sing-a-long
4. Cookie decorating contest
5. Christmas cookie eating contest

If needed, we will go into extra rounds where the groups will compete in the below challenges:

1. Grinch Trivia
2. Mystery challenge
3. Best creation of the Grinch angel from the movie

Doggone Christmas

Christmas is going to the dogs in Downtown Jonesborough! Bring your furry friend for pictures with Santa, enjoy treats and more. Prizes will be given for Ugliest Christmas Dog Sweater, Best Holiday Costume and Dog/Owner Look-A-Like.
