Jonesborough is ready to ring in the holiday season and Tennessee’s oldest town does it up right with the 39th Annual Jonesborough Progressive Dinner, which will take place Saturday, Dec. 3.
Sponsored by the Heritage Alliance of Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia, this is a must-attend event for me. Like many in the region and in surrounding states as well, my husband and I look forward to this every year and always circle the date on the calendar.
This holiday tradition features top-notch music from area musicians – including the Jonesborough Novelty Band – delectable gourmet cuisine and tons of fun with your family and friends. Not only that but it gives me the opportunity to enjoy many of the town’s inimitable and historic homes and buildings, something I know you’ll love as well!
The Progressive Dinner’s unique ability to combine delicious food and entertainment is just part of its charm from my perspective. The prospect of visiting various homes and other structures that feature stunning architecture has always been a big reason I make sure to take part in the evening as I have a real affinity for history.
Among the featured attractions this year will be a visit to the home where Jonesborough’s first family of historians lived, while yet another visit takes participants to another home that has a long attachment to the town’s merchants. I’m so looking forward to seeing these magnificent places.
Proceeds from the Progressive Dinner are put to great use as they will provide resources for a new museum exhibits and help assure that Jonesborough’s educational programs, such as the Oak Hill School Heritage Educational Program, remain accessible to a wide range of audiences.
Seats are going quickly so if you’re interested in taking part in the Progressive Dinner, you should reserve your tickets ($85 per person) now (I’ve had mine for a while). Reservations can be made by phone through the Heritage Alliance at 423-753-9580 or through the Visitor’s Center at 423-753-1010.
