The Storytelling Capital tells its own story in a unique new way. Jonesborough Story Town is an app that takes users on a journey of stories throughout Historic Downtown Jonesborough. The app, available for free on Android devices at the Google Play Store and for Apple devices at the App Store and iTunes, features local stories about the people who once walked the historic streets and lived and worked in the buildings on Main Street. Filled with vintage photos, featuring a “Now and Then” glimpse at the various locations, as well as audio stories and other crafted tales, the app provides users with an inside look into the early days of the town up to the present. Hidden histories come alive as users scroll and stroll through Main Street’s treasured past.
The app was developed by the McKinney Center’s Outreach Director, Jules Corriere. Many of the stories come from oral histories with local residents. Older stories are based on archival material from the Heritage Alliance of Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. The Heritage Alliance also provided most of the photographs used in the app.
