Evening at the Museum with the Heritage Alliance

On Thursday, September 23rd,guests will have a chance to stay late at the Jonesborough & WashingtonCounty History Museum located inside the Jonesborough Visitor’s Center. TheHeritage Alliance will be hosting a special reception from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pmfor their current exhibits “The Noblest Art: A Local History of the Circus” and“A Tale of Three Houses.” We invite the community to come out for some history,games, and a chance to tell us what you’d like to see in your local museum.
The Jonesborough & Washington CountyHistory Museum has been located in the Visitor’s Center since the 1980s. It hashad several changes overtime, but some aspects have not changed since themuseum was built over thirty years ago. The Heritage Alliance maintains themuseum, and we’d love to hear from the public as we work to make improvementsto the space. We host temporary exhibits every year, and we’re excited toshowcase our exhibit all about the circus in Washington County as well as ourpreservation exhibit that focuses on the Embree, Kyker, and Wassom Houses inTelford, TN. “A county museum is where a community gets to tell its story.Please come and visit the museum and share your ideas with us,” ExecutiveDirector Anne Mason encourages.
Items currently on display include abeautiful, early 1900s Crazy Quilt from the Wassom family, several itemsdiscovered underground at the Embree House, and the clock that used to keeptime in the 1847 Washington County Courthouse. Join us on September 23rdfor a special evening full of fun and history. You might even have a chance towin a cool prize in one of our circus themed games.
