Alison Brown Brings Her GroundbreakingBanjo Sound to The Jackson Theatre October 16
JONESBOROUGH, TN — GRAMMY Award-winningmusician Alison Brown will perform at The Jackson Theatre on Friday, October16, at 7pm.
Known as one of roots music’s mostinnovative banjo players, Brown has expanded the possibilities of theinstrument by blending bluegrass with jazz, folk, pop, classical and Latininfluences. Billboard praised her playing as having “a unique sonic signatureand an inescapable beauty,” while USA Today called her a “true ground-breaker”who is opening new possibilities for the banjo.
Brown began her musical career as ateenager in Southern California’s bluegrass scene before earning a degree fromHarvard University and an MBA from UCLA. After working as an investment banker,she left the financial world to pursue music full time and has since built acareer as a GRAMMY-winning musician, GRAMMY-nominated producer and co-founderof Compass Records Group.
Her work has received nationalrecognition from NPR, CBS Sunday Morning, The Wall Street Journal, The NewYorker and other major outlets. She has also appeared on programs including TheTonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel Live and The View.
Brown recently collaborated with fellowGRAMMY Award-winning banjoist Steve Martin on the album Safe, Sensible andSane. The project features guest appearances from Jackson Browne, Vince Gill,the Indigo Girls, Tim O’Brien, Jason Mraz, Della Mae and others.
