2021 MLK Jr. Day Virtual Celebration

McKinneyCenter to Host Annual MLK Service Project & Virtual Event


Tocelebrate and remember Martin Luther King Jr. this year, the McKinney Centerinvites the community to join them in a month-long service project and aVirtual Event on January 18th, 2:00 PM. Help us donate food to theJAMA Food Pantry then, join us for an online stream on the McKinney Center’sFacebook page to see live readings from MLK’s speech, local Black history, andsinging.


As we remember Dr. King, we remember his callto service, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doingfor others?’” The McKinney Center is inviting the Jonesborough community to joinin celebrating the service of Dr. King by participating in a food drive tosupport the JAMA (Jonesborough Area Ministerial Association) Food Pantry. TheJAMA Food Pantry serves residents holding Jonesborough, Telford, or Limestoneaddresses. In particular, the Food Pantry needs cereal, canned veggies, cannedmeat, boxed dinners, canned fruit, pinto beans, kidney beans, and othernon-perishable foods. To donate food items please drop off any items at theMcKinney Center until January 18th at Noon, M-F, 8 am-5 pm. Pleasehelp us to feed our community especially after a very difficult year. We willbe collecting food items from December 14th – January 18th at Noon.


To keep our community safe, this year our usual“Peace Walk” will be replaced with a virtual event that will celebrate the lifeand legacy of Dr. King through song lead by Ubunibi-Afia Agbenyaga Short, aswell as MLK speech readings from and Karen Sullivan, Brittany Butler, andothers.
