Main Street Jonesborough is excited to announce a new walkable holiday contest and display that is coming to town this December called Jonesborough’s Gingerbread Village. We’re looking for gingerbread houses, replicas of our historic buildings and more to be displayed throughout downtown storefront windows starting December 4th and continuing through Christmas. The public will be encouraged to come view all the edible works of art and also vote on their favorite entries.

Want to get involved? We would love that and have 2 ways you can participate! First, make a gingerbread house to enter. We will have 3 categories including Children, Adult/Family and Professional. First place and honorable mentions will be awarded for each. The public will also be encouraged to come stroll through town and view all the entries. Then, cast your vote for your favorite entry in each category to help decide the winners. Voting will take place Dec. 4 through Dec. 20 and winners will be announced December 21.

The competition is divided into 3 categories:

Children: Open to all children ages 17 and under with minimal help from adults

Adult/Family: Open to all non-professional adults/families

Professional: Open to all bakeries, culinary professionals, cake decorators or businesses in the baking industry.

  • Any structure may be entered (house, church, school, barn, train, etc.) Historic Jonesborough buildings are encouraged.
  • The main structure must be made of gingerbread or graham crackers. Purchased kits are acceptable except in the Professional category.
  • All components of the display except the base must be made of edible materials such as candy, cereal, cookies, crackers, pretzels, pasta, etc.
  • All structures must be mounted on a hard, unbending base.
  • There is no size limit but entries need to be sturdy and able to be moved.

Entries will be judged on overall appearance, originality, creativity, decorative appeal, difficulty and stability. Entries must be submitted on Monday, November 30 between 2-6pm at the International Storytelling Center in Downtown Jonesborough. All entries in the Professional Category, please contact Melinda Copp by Nov. 23 to make arrangements for set-up.
