DESCRIPTION:The Historic Jonesborough Dance Society was chartered in the Fall of 2005 as a non-profit\, educational organization to promote a better understanding and appreciation of American folk dancing\, its music\, its history and related folklore. HJDS is a group affiliate of the Country Dance and Song Society. We are an all-volunteer organization based in Jonesborough\, the oldest town in Tennessee. \nWe will hold community dances two Saturdays every month in the auditorium of the Historic Jonesborough Visitors Center at 117 Boone Street. Our dances are open to the public and feature live music in a smoke and alcohol free environment. No experience is necessary. Each dance is taught by the caller for the evening. You do not have to bring a partner. Comfortable shoes and clothing are recommended. Snacks and beverages are for sale in the visitors center. SUMMARY:Historic Jonesborough Dance Society- Contra Dance
DESCRIPTION:The Historic Jonesborough Dance Society was chartered in the Fall of 2005 as a non-profit\, educational organization to promote a better understanding and appreciation of American folk dancing\, its music\, its history and related folklore. HJDS is a group affiliate of the Country Dance and Song Society. We are an all-volunteer organization based in Jonesborough\, the oldest town in Tennessee. \nWe will hold community dances two Saturdays every month in the auditorium of the Historic Jonesborough Visitors Center at 117 Boone Street. Our dances are open to the public and feature live music in a smoke and alcohol free environment. No experience is necessary. Each dance is taught by the caller for the evening. You do not have to bring a partner. Comfortable shoes and clothing are recommended. Snacks and beverages are for sale in the visitors center. SUMMARY:Donald Davis Storytelling Concert
DESCRIPTION:Donald Davis\, one ofAmerica’s favorite master storytellers\, is coming to the Historic JonesboroughVisitors Center on April 12 and 13 at 7:30 p.m. The two-night concert will featureDavis telling different stories each evening. \n  \nDavis was born in a SouthernAppalachian Mountain world that was rich in stories. “I didn’t learn stories\, Ijust absorbed them.” Davis says as he recounts tales learned from a family of traditionalstorytellers who lived on the same Western North Carolina land since 1781. \n  \nDavis’ resume boasts numerousexperiences including Davidson College\, Duke University Divinity School\, aretired Methodist minister and former chairperson of the board of Directors forthe National Storytelling Association. He is a favorite at the NationalStorytelling Festival and has also served as a featured teller at theSmithsonian Institute\, the World’s Fair as well as festivals and concertsthroughout the United States and the world. \n  \nFor Donald Davis\, storytellingis a way of giving and living life. He invites each listener to come along\,pull deep inside for one’s own stories and personally share the commonexperiences that celebrate the creative spirit.
