SUMMARY:Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde at The Jackson Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1932) \nSpeakeasy Cinema \nPay What You Can \nSpeakeasy Cinema Series – Doors open at 6 pm\, movie at 7pm \nJazz Music\, Specialty Craft Cocktails (and Mocktails) for purchase \nalong with our full selection of beverages at the concession stand. \nComplimentary light bites will we available.    \n“I’ll show you what horror means” – growls the hideous Mr. Hyde  \nDr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde story is one of the most enduring and classic ones in both literature and film history. When it was first published in the year 1886\, Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde aroused a storm of controversy. Quaint Victorian sensibilities were outraged by its premise that every human being has a demon lurking within\, longing to break loose and indulge in forbidden pleasures. By scientific means\, the tale’s protagonist\, the kindly Dr. Jekyll\, frees his suppressed self and plunges into an orgy of uncontrollable licentiousness that ends in an untimely demise. Although the motives and circumstances of splitting one character into two have changed from adaptation to adaptation\, the basic premise of the story is still compelling. This version is the first sound one (previous version from 1920 starring John Barrymore). It is an adaptation of two 1887 stages play by Thomas Russell Sullivan\, Luella Forepaugh and George F. Fish\, rather than the book by Robert Louis Stevenson. It is considered the best version of Stevenson’s classic; this 1932 film resulted in an Oscar win for actor Fredric March. Beautifully filmed by Rouben Mamoulian and well-acted across the board. It also features some stunning visual tricks and strong pre-Code sexual content.  \nRated TV-PG  \nRunning Time 97 minutes  \nSpecialty Cocktail: The Mad Scientist

SUMMARY:History Happy Hour
DESCRIPTION:Join us Thursday\, September 24th for this month’s History Happy Hour with Allyson Wilkinson representing Jonesborough’s Daughters of the American Revolution! In the 1930’s\, the trail that established the settlements in the Appalachian frontier was honored by a marker. Jonesborough’s Daughters of the American Revolution placed the stone and metal monument at the west end of Main Street; over the decades\, traffic increased and ultimately damaged it. The Immigrant Trail marker’s relocation to 124 W. Main Street places it with a restored log home of a Revolutionary Patriot and a Presbyterian church\, the faith so many Scots-Irish immigrants brought to the colonies. In this Happy Hour\, we will share the story of Jonesborough’s changing Main Street and its connection to this ancient network of footpaths created by bison\, expanded by Native Americans\, and adopted by European settlers.Allyson Wilkinson is a Washington County native who practices law in Jonesborough and there is no place she’d rather be! She serves as a Trustee of the Heritage Alliance\, as a member of the Town’s Flag Committee\, and as Librarian and Past Regent of Jonesborough’s State of Franklin Chapter of the Tennessee Society\, Daughters of the American Revolution.
