SUMMARY:StoryTown Radio Show "Salute to Veterans"
DESCRIPTION:The StoryTown Radio Show will have aspecial “Salute to Veterans” performance at 7PM on Monday\, June 24 at theMcKinney Center\, featuring stories from local veterans. The cast will be joinedby music guests and hometown favorites The Jonesborough Novelty Band as well asstoryteller Don White with Storytelling Live! \n  \nFeatured stories come from local men and women who served inthe Armed Forces as well as from military families who also found ways toserve. These stories were collected during one-on-one interviews with theStoryTown Brigade and at the Jonesborough Senior Center. Many cast members inthe production are also veterans\, making this episode particularly important tothem.  \n  \nThe stories of veterans are notjust relegated to war stories. In their own words\, veterans explain theyexperience the same things everyone else does\, the anxiety of leaving home andgoing somewhere new. Veteran Deborah Fuller shared\, “When I went in themilitary at seventeen — scared out of my wits — but I left home to go in themilitary. I graduated from high school at seventeen. It’s always scary andthrough my travels and stuff\, I’ve met other people who’ve never left home . ..” There are also stories of tenderness\, and tales of finding the love of alifetime in just a few weeks. \n  \nThe beloved Jonesborough Novelty Band will perform two shortsets during the production\, in which the audience will be encouraged tosing-along to familiar tunes. Don White with Storytelling Live is anaward-winning singer/songwriter\, storyteller\, author\, and comedian. Audiencemembers will get to hear a story from him before he starts his weeklongresidency at the International Storytelling Center.
