Conversations That Matter
August 21 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
“Conversations that Matter” is a new monthly on-line seriesfrom the McKinney Center. Ineach “Conversation” two local guests will explore their own culture andperspective, and talk to each other about what makes them unique, discovertheir similarities, and explore their differences. They will look at wheretheir lives might intersect personally and in the community. The goal of each“Conversation that Matters” is for guests and participants to hear realstories, from real neighbors.
As a viewer, the focus will be on a conversation from twocommunity members who wish to have a conversation on their own personalexperiences in Northeast Tennessee. Those who attend will get to watch thisconversation unfold with moderation from Katelyn Yarbrough and Michelle Treece.
This monthly series is inspired by the Diversity &Inclusion Subcommittee at the McKinney Center’s desire to highlight theexperiences of all voices in Washington County, Tennessee, with an intention toinclude marginalized groups. By showcasing these conversations, the Diversity& Inclusion committee hopes to open doors to new ideas and perspectivesamongst our very own neighbors. Questions such as, “What was your experience ingrade-school and how did that make you feel?” or, “have you experiencedexclusion or racism?” For many of us the answers are different and unique. TheMcKinney Center believes it is time to talk about our experiences and sharethem.
There is value in uplifting these stories so that we maylearn from one another. Then, after hearing from one another our moderators andguest conversationalists will give insight on how to move forward.
